COTTER is the improbable story of Irish rebel Garrett Cotter, transported for life and befriended by a reclusive and feared aboriginal leader. Imagination and remembered stories merge with known history in a gripping account of first contact at the rugged southern frontier of the colony of New South Wales.
Thoroughly researched and beautifully woven into a compelling narrative by author Richard Begbie, Cotter explores the bounties and beauty of the high country, as well as deep places in the colonial heart.
Over many years their friendship led to Cotter’s name being attached to the valley, river and dam supplying Canberra’s water. Cotter in turn was able to provide shelter for Onyong at vulnerable moments in later years.
PCD both designed and, through its publishing arm, Longhand Press, published this moving novel.
